Kilimanjaro Day 1

On Sunday, October 20th, we began a 7-day trek up Mount Kilimanjaro. Brian, Cora and I teamed up with Lydia and Mike Spilsbury, Adele Belanger-McMurdo and Roger Dunlop and we took an unconventional route (Lemosho to Northern Circuit to School Hut and Gilman's Point, to Uhuru Peak and then down the Mweka route). It was gorgeous and quiet. On day 1 we only hiked for about 2 1/2 hours from the Lemosho gate to Forest Camp. We covered 5.4 kilometres and about 400 metres of altitude gain to put us at 2821 metres at Forest Camp.
