Equador, Part 1 - Quito & Mindo Cloud Forest

The convergence of colonial era architecture and modern skylines defines Quito. This vibrant and friendly city was our first stop on our Equador itinerary. The pictures below capture such contrasts as LeeAnne striding across the catwalk inside the roofline of the neo-Gothic (and newly constructed) Basílica del Voto Nacional and scrabbling across the rooftop of the historic Convento del San Francisco behind a nimble octogenarian.

Mindo Cloud Forest was an epic day trip led by our enthusiastic naturalist guide, David. The discovery of giant-leafed plants and the tiniest of creatures enhanced our appreciation for the beauty of this fragile ecosystem.
