Before leaving East Africa, we wanted to visit Ethiopia to see our good friends the Zickefooses and the Gunthers, as well as to explore the ancient rock-hewn churches from the 11th and 12th centuries in Lalibela. 13th-century monasteries on Lake Tana, hiking in the Simien Mountains and exploring the 16th-century capital of Gondar were also highlights. It was a wonderful trip after leaving Kenya in June.
