Day trip to Lake Magadi...

For March break this year, we have enjoyed a staycation. Cora has studied diligently every day for her IB mock exams which start next week; Brian and I have enjoyed reading good books, walking the dog and catching up on a few movies. One day we also enjoyed a day trip to Lake Magadi, near the Tanzanian border. This lake is a soda lake and huge swathes of the lake are covered in pink slush (salt). It's a very beautiful and unusual spot and the flamingos like it a lot, especially in the shallow areas leading to the natural hot springs. We had a fantastic local Maasai guide, Toi kan, accompany us out to the hot springs and then explain various aspects of culture from the area. On our way back to Nairobi, we stopped at the Olorgesailie Prehistoric Site where we saw fossils and hand axes dating from 500,000 - 992,000 years ago. Wow!
