Planting indigenous trees at Rungiri Secondary School...

As part of our big GISS 2013 summit in February, we pledged to plant enough trees to offset the carbon footprint of the summit. That means we need to plant about 625 trees! Today a group of teachers and students set out to plant 250 trees at Rungiri Secondary School just outside of Nairobi. This is a school where one of our Golden Heart students, Washington, is a student, and his group organized everything at the site, including the digging of many holes. We planted an amazing array of indigenous trees (some quite rare), spent time with the students and enjoyed learning a lot from forester Robert (Eco-Challenge). What a great morning!

Weekend in the peaceful Aberdares...

Looking at Mount Kenya is a beautiful mountain range called the Aberdares. Tucked in the high part of the park are two lovely rustic cabins and we were lucky enough to spend last weekend there. Chilly evenings, gorgeous views, a 20-kilometre hike, spectacular waterfalls, lots of wildlife and good chats with our friends Devin and Sue... a lovely way to spend the weekend.
