The Library is Officially Open!

It's been many months of planning, but the results are worth it. Support from Canada, the USA and from Kenya has made possible this beautiful and well-stocked space for the 300+ students and staff of the MCEDO-Beijing School in Nairobi. More details at www.freedomthroughlearning.org

Visitors from Canada!

Our dear friends, Katherine and JD have arrived from Ottawa! Matthew and Anna have come along to keep their parents on their best behaviour, too. So far, they've partaken of Ethiopian food, climbed an extinct volcano and helped us celebrate the grand opening of our new Freedom Through Learning library in the Mathare slum.

Improving a local school with ISK students

Our high school "Under Construction" club enjoyed their 5th and last day of building at Salama Gachie School in a nearby slum in Nairobi. The 15 students found lots of painting, fabricating and digging to do. The result? A new water tank installed, new security lighting provided, a shiny new gate, resurfaced chalkboards and two new soccer goalposts (recycled from old metal). A great day, indeed!

Easter Dinner with Margaret's Awesome Family

In what has become a bit of an Easter tradition, our family and Margaret's join together for some food and catching up. This year, we opted for something a bit non-traditional... Ethiopian food! There was no turkey, but there was goat!
